The Big Leagues
by Portland 9/4/2007
My Favorite Draft...every year...was on Labor Day. My buddies & I have held this league since 1998 including Goldenboy and Arrogant Bastards. We have had to kick a guy out of the league for not paying his league fee, someone drafted Rich Gannon & the Ravens Defense in Rounds 1 & 2 and every year the same guy bets everyone he will have a better record than them.
Unfortunately I have never won this league. It's the toughest league I know of. Everyone prepares and comes to Draft Day with their game face on. I have back-2-back second places & a third. I have had 3 dominate teams and have been knocked out in the second round after I received a bye.
I had the 10th Selection in the draft. It is a 10 man league and scoring format is 25/75. I wanted Manning or Bush but in this league that wasn't going to happen.
The Draft started with LT followed by Steven Jackson, Addai, Larry Johnson, Gore, Bush, Alexander, Westbrook and Manning at 9. I selected Parker and Chad Johnson. We start three WR and I like to have one of the best. I have drafted Chad Johnson the last two years...I am thinking this could be Palmer and Chad's best year.
In the third round I selected Drew Brees. I wanted one of the top five QB's this year and I was excited to have Brees on my team. I followed Brees with Portis. Three drafts and Portis has fell to me every time. I loved this guy early in his career but he scares the shit out of me.
Starting with round 1...I drafted:
Willie Parker
Chad Johnson
Dree Brees
Clinton Portis
Calvin Johnson
Bears
Darrell Jackson
Bernard Berrian
Romo
Kaeding
Vernon Davis
Kevin Jones
Packers
LenDale White
Nick Folk
Like every team in our draft this year...I have Studs and Question marks. Arrogant Bastards Cock Blocked me in round 8 by selecting Ladell Betts. I told him to get $#&%!
That morning, Kevin Jones was placed on the 53 man roster so I figured that when bye weeks come around he should be starting over Tinker Bell. As for LenDale White...someone has to be the starter in Tennessee.
Who is Nick Folk? Don't ask...
I knew it was going to be a tough Draft because of the competition level in this league but I feel good. A little bit of luck and I will win the Title.
This years Draft Bloopers included a homer selecting Adrian Peterson with the fourth pick in Round 3. BuzzKill drafting Jake Delhome as his starting QB and Matt Schaub as his back-up. BuzzKill did it again when he tried to draft Marvin Harrison in the middle of round three.
Thursday is two days away...GO BREES!
